I just noticed a little colored square under my name thingy, well above the msn sign on my replies. says Im on a distinguished road! Now that just isn't true.. I live on a well rather undistinguishable road! Even though its fairly busy its just a typical road!! :p So whats those lil things for anyway??

Aha, well spotted :sherlock: This is the "User Reputation Level", It is something that was already available in the software but I just turned it on to try it out. Basically what it says in the vBulletin options is:

User Reputations:
vBulletin's user reputation system provides a way of rating users based on the quality of their posts. Users on your forums can add or subtract reputation points from other users by clicking the reputation link in their posts.

You start off with 10 user points - thats you on a distinguished road, reach 50 points and it will say that you "will become famous soon enough", reach 150 and it says you "have a specular aura" and 250 you are a "Jewel in the rough" and so it goes on. The more you post in the forums and the more other users give you points based on your input, the higher the level.

Now I do have to say that I am not 100% sure how this thing works *LOL* and if if gets to be a pain in the derriere we can switch it off again. Just let me know what you think about it and can we see.

I've seen this in use on other forums... if you take it seriously it can have bad consequences. The place where I saw it, you can also take away from a person's rep, and all it needs is for someone to hold a grudge and suddenly your rep goes down when they get all their friends to bad mouth you too. Suddenly, people coming here will see his moderator has a really bad rep and... that's where things get nasty.
