.I just learn from tallpindo on why these cars and trucks modell are free. this is what he wrote and he do not mind me copying this here. He one of the best modellers i saw on these cars and trucks for he have the knowledge of how the really looks like and the knowledge of makeing them right so we can go WWWOOOOWWW and not just say "that great"
there a lot more than firetrucks and amiblices there. there arrow to press and it take you to diff cars like racecares and pickup trucks

this is what tallpindo wrote:
Mostly these are free models downloaded and textured and set up in Carrara or poser. Now on this one I'll rag a bit on my shortcomings as to why I must salvage free models instead of entering commerce. This is what I currently call "throw aways". The opportunity is there to really wow the troops but I throw it away. Where is the trailer air hose and connection? Where is that reddish-brown loop of hose on the back of the trailer? Why is the 5th wheel so blocky? Where is the owners sign on the side of the cab that says what fleet or independent this belongs to? Where is the tread on the tires? Sure in a front view it is shadowed but here? What about a chrome strip on the bottom of each mudflap or an ad? How about more lights? In fact, laughing now, where are the tail lights? Am I done? I ws going to tell you about 13 speed Roadrangers and 9 speed tractor transmissions with 5 speeds for turbo V-8 Macks, all with two and 3 speed auxilliaries to have a gear for every road in America. I was going to tell you about long wheelbase and tandem axles and front axle set back for easy ride. Instead I fell into my need to be perfect. To get those little hitches out of the holes in the aluminum wheels that catch hard light. I know you don't know this model tiled that forest scene on the back of the sleeper all over the sides and I finally got it back there after chasing it down looking not to shabby projected parametric on the right side with plain on the left. Why should you that is my task as an artist to get it right? If you bought it from DAZ or TurboSquid you would have steering wheels and an opennable hood. All this nonsense would be solved for you. Clunk! Putting this tractor in gear and letting it leap and shudder a bit as it takes the load then torquing it way over to twist the frame and lift a fender. Just as the smoke rises it's time for another gear and we're on our way.

This truck is at http://www.dmi3d.info/models16.html in the lower left hand corner. I downloaded as a .zip that contained a .lwo object which my Carrara 4 Pro will open using the import rules it has. It will import into Poser as a Lightwave import. Depending on which way you go the textures then could take 15 minutes or several hours if you have no library of metals, paints, rubber, glass, etc. If you just take pot luck and use the textures that come with it, it will look dull and Gourad on it's way to Phong. Four or five years ago that was pretty darn good and is where this model is coming from. There is tractor in the free items (cheaper, a lot cheaper) on TurboSquid which is more logging truck or oil field or even Mad Max. Also look at 3DCafe and 3DExchange as well as 3dcar-gallery. Some of the other servers of free models are now gone but the models were moved to ones that are still up. I just finished a BMW 2000CS from Turbosquid that took me about 10 hours not counting render time so if your time is worth $50 and hour consider a $150.00 purchase for a better looking deal with more possibilities vs. a rare look at the fun and danger of modelling. There are models for $2 and some for $495.00. There are models for $9995.00 for industrial use. I usually spend about 90 hours on a model like the El Dorado you saw earlier. That works out to $7200 at $80 per hour with marketing overhead. I'd have to sell 720 of them for $10.00 to even break even and I like at least 45% EBITA and to be #1 or #2 in my genre.
