Flaming Pear is another filter site which is PS/CS and PSP compatible - I use them a lot!. HERE (http://www.flamingpear.com/)

Also Filters Unlimited - this is one I use a LOT! HERE (http://www.icnet.de/index.html) Unfortunately it isn't free, but it's not that expensive either. Once you have it downloaded, you can add hundreds more from a link on that site, and also make your own.

AutoFX Software produces stuff like Mystical Lighting, Mystical Tint & Tone, etc. HERE (http://www.autofx.com/homepage.html)

Corel KPT Collection HERE (http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=Corel3/Products/Display&pid=1047022702225)

PSP Xtras - HERE (http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=Corel3/Products/Display&pfid=1047024307383)

XERO Filters HERE (http://www.xero-graphics.co.uk/)

OMG! :jawdrop: If you have never heard of this place, go HERE (http://www.dmnforums.com/index.htm) . You can find just about anything you want to know about PS, PSP, After Effects, Corel, Painter... it has tutorials and downloads of brushes and filters and things... and that's just the tip of the iceberg!

While looking for something else I saw animation, sound/midi, movie making related articles and tutorials - no matter what your industry focus is, if it's on the computer you'll likely find something relating to it here! GO CHECK IT OUT!! Who knows what else you might find! :jawdrop:
I completely downloaded the tutorial on making human skin, the brushes used to make it, as well as hair brushes too! It's fantastic!

Ummm... Well I just looked at all of these links, also at the various forums available, but unfortunately I couldn't see anything that was about PSP. :cries:

Those skin texturing tuts look simply amazing, but until I learn the basics of Adobe Photoshop, I can't do them.

I'm still hoping someone will give me a direct comparison between the PSP named tools and the PS/CS named tools, so that I can begin to get a grasp of things. I just feel I'm really lagging behind now.

But, having said all that, PSP has certainly been an amazing program for me to use, and I'm still finding there is more and more that can be done in it once you suss out new things about it.

It's a bit unfortunate that Adobe seem to monopolise so many of the really good tutorials, and leave PSP as though it were just an image editing program, when in fact it's so much more than that, and much less expensive!!

Just seen this, and thanks so much Robert - I'll have a good look tomorrow, hopefully - have been a bit preoccupied with other things at home today.

You are a really helpful person and I really appreciate that! :beerchug:

Unfortunately, most of the tutorials I've found for PSP are for making sigs, and tags and cutsie little bears, etc. The program seems to be treated as a "toy" tool for those who dabbel in simple web graphics. I remember when I belonged to a PSP group and wanted to know about cloning within layers. No one could give me an answer and I finally had to figure it out for myself. LOL It's really too bad because PSP really is quite comparable to Photoshop. Perhaps the fact that it is priced cheaper, serious artists avoid getting it? *sigh* There is enough difference between the aspects of the two programs to make it difficult to use a PS tut in PSP. I too would love to see someone give a breakdown of tools between the two programs.

One warning on looking at the links (I'm sure Robert wouldn't have been aware of this).. Some, not all, will also give you other pop-ups, even with a good pop-up stopper, they still appear (I'm not supposed to get ANY!!!)! I'm afraid that some of them are directly onto hard porn sites!!!!!!!! So you need to be prepared for this if you click on links to stuff off any of those sites listed above. Total bummer, I know! Once you have got onto anything like that, there is a cookie normally installed right onto your computer, so it's a good idea to clean out your cookies after being subjected to anything of that sort, or you stand a good chance of getting loads of unwanted spam in your email, too!

I haven't had time to look at all the links, but what I have seen looks fairly good for people who want to begin with PSP, or want to learn how to do certain things, or if you want to download brushes - but again, you are normally required to give a link back if you use them or any of the clipart!

It is possible to make your own brushes, which is something I'm doing all the time by the way, and I know several others here do the same...

QR! Yes, tell me about it! Exactly the thing I've found too! Yet it can be used as a really good art media!

I have just begun to create custom brushes for different types of artwork, and this is a real bonus. This includes deciding on exactly how you want the colours to work (sometimes dual colouring or shading for example), whether it's pressure sensitive, etc. etc., and also whether or not you want those settings to be for your other tools as well as the brushes. It ultimately saves loads of time when you come to do a picture.

What I haven't yet discovered is how to make a set of brushes within one, if you know what I mean.. Or a set of tubes within one tube, like the ones that come with the program, for instance with butterflies, there are different types of butterlies to be found within that tube. I have so far only managed to make one tube at a time - a tip, too.. If you make tubes, or even custom brushes, it's a good idea to keep them in a separate folder that you can easily access. This saves the amount of time it takes PSP to upload, and keeps the program responding quickly.

As you say, it's time this digital snobbery came to an end! I say, why spend orrrrl of that money on something dearer, when you can achieve the same results from a cheaper, equally comprehensive program, if only we spend the time with it and discover exactly all its attributes! Actually the producers of PSP itself don't make the best of it either - they have started advertising it more in conjunction with it being a photo editor rather than as a complete graphic program in its own right!

And of course, now, the problem also lies in that some of the plug-ins are only Adobe friendly! That's really annoying! A bit like the monopolisation by Microsoft, huh!!

By the way, QR, do you in fact use a pen mouse of any sort? If not, I'd still invest in one of the cheaper end ones rather than persist with a normal mouse for artwork, because it is very much easier, even if not as sensitive as you'd like - they do still mainly have 512ppi pressure sensitivity, which is still pretty good!

Just found this site for use of originally made tubes specifically for sharing.. BUT please read their terms of use!! There are some restrictions! They require artist's individual copyright acknowledgement if used, even if they are altered, and also, if you use works by several artists, then you need to put that they are copyrighted to PSP Tube Depot. They can only be used for non-commercial work too!

http://www.psptubedepot.com/index.htm for the site.

http://www.psptubedepot.com/tou.htm for Terms of Use! BE CAREFUL!

Thanks for the link to this info! They explain the copyright issues very clearly.I will explore more when I have time. I recommend that people read it to be sure what you can and can't use of online graphics. I thought I knew all about it, but there was somethings that were made very clear that I didn't know, so check it out! :spotlight

Some tutes also show how to use it as companion to PS, PSP, Gimp and others...

Happy painting and waffling!
