Am bored so I thought I would show you one of my processes to make a flame into a terrain for TG. I used TerraMaker (which is a free program) to convert the flame jpg into a .ter file.

here is the original flame:
http://home.comcast.net/~lonkat/flame_original.jpg

here is what it looked like when I opened it in TerraMaker:
http://home.comcast.net/~lonkat/flame_in_terra_maker.jpg

I just opened it in TM, didnt mess with any other settings, then I saved it as a .ter file. Here is the link:
http://home.comcast.net/~lonkat/flame_1.ter

opened .ter file in TG, observed terrain at 500 feet, in terrain units.. looks pretty interesting... no surface texture applied yet.
saved render as "ariel view 500 feet":
http://home.comcast.net/~lonkat/ariel_view_500_feet.jpg

added surface texture "martianplain 2" preset Surface texture in TG.

changed terrain fixed height above surface to 1

opened "Landscape View/Sculpt" in TG, displaying color heights and took a screen shot to show you the viewpoint:
http://home.comcast.net/~lonkat/Image18.jpg

no atmosphere added, sun is visible.

rendered that view:

There you go, a nice barren martian landscape. This was fun and I hope you find this interesting and/or informative :ta-da:

Wow! I was unaware of this TerraMaker capability (conversion). Going to install it. BTW, looks like fractals can provide very interesting terrains. Thanks Sass!
