Its gonna be a photo challenge/contest in Januari 2006 but as the decided theme is "Holiday lights" I suggest you charge your batteries and get your cameras and memory cards ready to hunt that picture during the holidays http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/99.gif
I will be back with the rules but it will be pretty much standard rules. One picture never posted before anywhere. Postwork will be allowed as long as its your own photos.

Wow - Carolyn - you never take pictures? I am so glad I have photographs stetching back over the years, some raise a smile and some can make me cry, but I would be lost without all my "treasured memories".

Sorry to hear that you have lost touch with your daughter Carolyn. Hopefully things will improve as time passes. http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5elf/heart1.gif

When I was growing up my parents took very few photos (cultural thing). When i was in my 20's I bought a 35mm camera, a bunch of lenses and a box of filters at a tag sale for $75 (US dollars) That camera went with me everywhere and I took shots of everything, even out the car window (yep, as I was driving)........nothing was too dull as far as I was concerned. I also worked mainly in B/W (until it got hard to get the film) I have 10 years of photos in boxes! My dear sweet friend (the camera) finally bit the dust, and although I have a digital, it's just not the same. However, I love a good challenge!!!!

Wtg QR. I take both digital and my 35mm with me whenever I go on a trip, my digital comes on every class trip and is always in my car in case that sun decides on a glorious mood that day. :) And now they make digitals almost as good as the old 35mm with all the lenses. My wish list includes the new Kodak one, it's a 5.1 megapixel with 15x zoom lens and all sorts of filters inside that make it perfect for a semi knowledgeable person, yet easy enough for self to just point and shoot... :) If I do manage to get my wish my old digital is going to daughter who wants one too ... :)

Okay something is going on my post from a couple days ago is gone. Gremlins!!! My question was.. since I am not able to get out and take photos myself anymore, can I upload a photo my son took? He has no desire to sign up here mainly because he doesn't really have time. He's a lot like QR he takes photos everywhere on the run from here to there! So?

Are you going to run a monthly, or bi-monthly challenge on a regular basis, George? Just wondered - I keep checking in to see...

Well, won't promise I will enter, but would like to see you run another challenge. I didn't have any of Christmas lights to enter last time. :-)
I am a maniac with my digital also......take zillions of pictures and delete most....that is the joy of that kind of camera. lol

Hi,
Oh George - a hard job here to stimulate the ladies and guys to take their cams...
My suggestion for a theme would be a macro/ close up photo, maybe with a hard-to-say-what-it-is touch or something else.
A little example from my website:

Looks like a really good theme!
I think, George, that the photo section has not been properly taken notice of in the past, and like the Mixed Medium section, may take a few months to build up, but one of the best ways is to do showcasing, and challenges - that brings it into the forefront of people's minds, and gets people more interested in taking part.
Personally I am still amalgamating much of my own stuff into digital format, or getting together stuff that already is digital, and it takes quite a lot of doing, as on seeing stuff again after a long period, there's plenty to throw away as well!!! Although my husband has loads of photos, slides, digital stuff, I don't have anything like the same amount because my disability does not enable me to get to the high places, so to speak! I was unable to do anything for the January challenge because Richard's the one who took all the brightly lit night scenes, mainly in Manchester.
I should however be able to manage some macro photography! Well have done already! Just not got any of it orgaised, and I must remember too, not to post stuff on my personal site if it's going to be used here!

Thats a pine cone! But heres the thing.. Not everyone does macro's and even if they try not everyone can do them very well... What if you just change it to something like Small things?

Hmmm well Im not much for closeups, that is if I can get the camera away from the kid for 5 seconds. But I can try. Maybe a cats face! :D lol

I can't do a macro with my camera, but I can do a close up!

Lou-Ann, I think sometimes the idea of a challenge is to see what we can make ourselves do over and above the usual. At one time, you said only your son (I think) did photography, and ever since, you seem to have put up one reason or another why any theme or idea might not suit you. But why not give it a try? Lots of people learn new things when they do things for challenges. I'm sure you have in other areas, and you do really good stuff, so I'm equally sure you could do something with a camera. Some cameras don't have Macro facility, but I wouldn't think there are many these days that can't take a fairly decent closeup (unless the lens is pretty naff).
By the same token, we don't of course, have to take part in all the challenges. Sometimes perhaps we need to wait until there's one we feel particularly drawn to? :blowkiss:

Here a little example from my site:
