Hope this helps somewhat. I can honestly say play with the settings. If you've the registered version, always check "Ultra" in the render settings, that seems to do best for the skies. I can always or you can go over the terrain itself with the 'sharpening' brush in one of hte other paint programs.

I've been doing Terragen since May... my first pics were horrors. But persistance and always playing with the sky settings, reading others (never using them) but following them as a guide. In the Pele one the colors that Robert gave in his thing are the same as mine, except the sunlight ones. :) Again, practice... Same for surfacing... I am always playing, I don't always do a pic with the new ones but do save them.

Anywho, good luck and hope this helps a bit....

good work, Pat! I've copied them and will take a look - when I'm playing with terragen its just fun fiddling the adjustments, but its great when you have some points to start from.
I made my first terragen image before two month I think and at the moment I think I'm gettin' better.

Oh excellent!! I'll copy those out too - it'll be interesting to see what we all make of them, lol!

(Sorry Pat, I replied to your pm before seeing this. This is great!)

BTW, Robert, when I was trying out your original "Let the Sky Burn" settings (which is partially what I used in my upload lastnight into the challenge - but changed them) I found that by having cloud shadowing on all the terrain went completely dark and flat with no highlights! Maybe that was just the kind of terrain I was using, but as soon as I unchecked that box again, I had the highlights back. Of course that does affect the way the sky appears too, so I'll have to do some fiddling with that obviously!

If and when I get some really stunning results, I will also share my settings, but I'm already far too impressed with what you two have done! lol!

Just a suggestion: terrain does count. Mostly the height and MPS (meter point spacing), and that's why if you copy some settings from someone, be sure to copy the height and the facing of the camera, and to know the size and MPS (terrain size menu) of his/her terrain. If you go much higher/lower, atmo settings will often seem to be totally different. In bliss, and other special atmo effects, this counts even more, because the "effect" window is smaller.
Anyway, I'd like to invite you to experiment a lot with settings (but don't forget to save the original ones, so that you can reset your changes if not satisfied).

(I have put this answer also in the Rev's tips)

:) I saw your comment on the last TG render I uploaded Robert and Anna asked for some general water settings as well, I will copy them here later today when I get home from work... :) And ANna, I will send you those terrain files :) Also, didn't forget...

Thanks Pat.. Look forward to them! No good having all the rest and lousy water lol! I actually did get some renders when I first started with TG that were quite good water-wise, but I didn't save the settings :disbelief and have never got back to anything like them again!

Ya'll do great work with terragen, but I just prefer to do it a lil differently and I think I get some great results. I don't mess much with the settings. like trying to change sun size etc. but hey we all can't do the same thing it would be a boring program then. Ya'll keep up the great work. Love looking at everyones work!

Lou-Ann, your own work is very special and yes, very different - you have your own style in everything you do, and it's all excellent!

Each to our own, hey! It's not so much a copying process that's involved here, as a means of getting to know somewhere to start in order to see differences in our TG landscapes - then off we can go into our own individual styles too, with some of the knowledge we have gained! That's one of the things I like here, that we are willing to share what we do with one another and help one another along the way.....

To Blue Jester, you'll find here at IT folks use the forums for just that sharing some settings, and helping one another generally. It's a fun way to learn and much easier than reading a tutorial. We've all done variations of some of Roberts settings that he gave us, and each one is quite different. :) And you do not cheat Lou Anne... LOL...
