This is a document written by a Lawyer who knows the law regarding copyright issues! I must ask that anyone who wishes to use anything of anyone else's works read this first! I would also ask that no-one uses tubes or other artwork made available from any other site without ensuring you have the right to do so. You will discover more by reading this very easy to understand document.

Please click HERE (http://www.whatiscopyright.org/) to read it, and note, we do not have permission to reproduce any of it, or to print it out!!!!

Thanks all. This is an issue that cannot be stressed enough! :sherlock:

Thanks for posting this. I went to the website and bookmarked it to read portions of it later. A very important issue.

Thanks for posting the link! I knew some of what was written, but not all of it! It was very helpful!

What is hard to know is some of these tub sites say it is there own work, that maybe partly true, however the original image is copyrighted and that unfortunately is where a lot of people just simply do not know and just take the word on these tubes site. what gets me they not only steal copyrighted images they also claim copyright on them for themselfs.
Even on letters I make for the site we have permission from the artist to use their images for stationery yet people still take them apart and do whatever with them. I've had many a battles with Yahoo groups and msn groups for ripping copyrighted images with the artist name on them and use them for themself or put on their site as their own work.

Also another point here some frames I have seen used here ,you get at some very well known frame maker site, that have added images to the frame is highly copyrighted thing of it is she knows it and won't stop so its just a matter of time I do know for a fact that Disney characters, warner bros and many individual artists will sue no matter where in the world you are.

The best rule of thumb is if you did not make it yourself.. don't use it.

Great thread, and a subject that is so confusing. How would this apply to using scripts in fractal programs such as Apophysis? Am I breaching copyright if I use a script, even if all the work is mine? I find the scripts is a grey area for me. Parameters are the work of the artist, this much I am aware of, but the scripts confuse me. Any input? Or am I just being too worried?

The best rule of thumb that I go by, is to always declare © of the original script writer. Any that are newly written by people, such as those that are written by CabinTom (http://cabintom.deviantart.com/) over at deviantART, and many others besides, should always be credited to those script-writers. The scripts that come with the original Apo program are generally ok for general use without reference (so I believe), but watch out if you use a newly written script that people have shared with fractalists since you acquired the original program.

May I suggest too, that you ask questions about fractals, and also refer this particular question you've asked, in the Fractal Forum? You're more likely to get accurate info specific to fractals there.

Thankyou Anna, and yes, I have a barely used account on Deviant art, but have submitted a few fractals there. I read all about the parameters and understood that on my own, but scripts was something I felt should also be copyright. My apologies for not addressing this is the right forum as I have to admit I didn't see the fractal part.
