Select Edges plugin

The Select Edges plugin is a powerful tool for selective processing.
You can select edge detail in your image for sharpening with Unsharp
Mask without getting halos or switch to the inverse selection and use
Gaussian Blur to diminish the background.

The plug-in can be used with Adobe Photoshop 5.5, 6, 7, or CS for both
8 bit per channel and 16 bit per channel Grayscale, RGB, LAB
and CMYK images.

This plugin resides under Photoshop's Select menu.

u're right this is a very powerful and useful tool. I started using it 'bout three weeks and it takes part to almost every elaboration I'm doing now. A tricky technique is that of applying filters on the same image after selecting the edges: first one filter in edges selected, then invert the selection and apply another filter... results are amusing... rokko

Another good plugin for edge effects and posterization is by ImageXpress called Alius.. it produces some excellent edge effects though...my picture "Fractured Ladies" is an example of what it does...
