Hi Everyone

When I am working on my computer art I like to listen to music.

My favourite band of all time is RUSH. But I also listen to Yes, Allan Parson's Project, The Police, Asia , other progressive rock bands.

What kind of music do you listen to when you are creating your art?

I normally have the radio on when I'm playing with my PC... but occasionally I'll whack on a CD... Cher, Cat Stevens, Beach Boys, strange compilations that I've made up for myself, etc...

Ron Great band there Black Sabbath.

Engel47 Queen is the guest band on American Idol next week. That should be a blast!!!

I was talking to a friend of mine last week and he saw Queen twice in one week and got to meet Paul Rodgers. ( It doesn't hurt that he is a multi millionare and allways has front row seats )

I grew up listening to my brother playing Cat Stevens music on his guitar!

Hi,

I know them all (its a bit of my generation music). When I hear Black Sabbath, then I have to think of Uriah Heep, the early Santana, Deep Purple, Led Zepplin, Steely Dan, CCR and so on...

Today when I'm on my computer art I play on my notebook beside me James Blunt over and over again...

Wow, am I the only one who does NOT listen to music when I create art?

I really should I guess, I just never think of it. Since my last HD change I haven't even put any music onto my Player Libraries!

Scandal!!!

Thanks for the reminder, I think I may go grab a few cd's and download them to my comp! Yes.. music while creating, excellent idea!

Sometimes I can be very slow....

You are not alone Judee, I don't listen to music either.

I even cut the power off my speakers so I don't have to listen to the windows tune at start up and close down.

My computer is in the living room and the TV is behind me.. someone is usually around watching TV so I just don't listen to music when I create. But I love music of all kinds cept for rap, not fond of that and that stuff they call rock music today, just noise to me. I prefer older music, Showtunes, country and jazz.. I love to listen to Linda Ronstadt, Beach Boys, Janis Joplin, Air Supply, Chicago and any musicals! I like some country but not as well as music from the 60's. I grew up listening to very old stuff.. My grandfather used to listen to Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, the big band sound and I loved it. My mother loved Gospel music so I like it on occassion to... I just love music period well cept for that loud stuff of today ya know!! Its just noise :D

Styx just played here the other night and I missed them due to other commitments. Gowan is playing with them as a member of Styx now, and was supposed to be amazing. It was supposed to be one of the best concerts ever.

definately music is on! I cant stand all of the music that was on when I was growing up because it is the same 4-5 songs from those bands,so I listen to Korn, godsmack, disturbed, perfect circle...and the such. They relate more to what I am feeling these days. :-)

Much to my suprise, virtually every band listed on this thread is sitting in my collection here. Not that I would play Black Sabbath or Sisters of Mercy when I'm playing in apophysis. Just the wrong sort of emotial impact to them, it doesn't help with the whole thinking/feeling process that I need with fractals. Maybe if I was still working in glass and ceramic I would drag out the heavier stuff, but not in front of a computer!

Sometimes I play old 80's music (Flock Of Seagulls et al) music to do apophysis to but not very often. What I do play is (mostly) ethereal stuff- bands like Curve, My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Enya, Cocteau Twins. I think that I would have great difficulty actually doing much if it wasn't for those bands- they inspire me to make something. Not that I think that anyone from those bands will see this, but :blowkiss: thanks for the music that makes me want to make beautiful things.

You know you could have just disabled the sound (if you use windows XP/2K start-> control panel-> sounds and audio devices-> there is a 'mute' button there)..but then there is no cool story right? :lachen001

This is a very diverse topic for me, so here's a few things I listen to whilst working:

Alejandro Sanz, Shakira, Maná, Carlos Piňana, Juanes, Santana or...

Alejandro Sanz, Mylene Farmer, Tarkan, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Sevara Nazarkhan, Nitin Sawhney or...

Alejandro Sanz, Diane Schuur, Diana Krall, Jane Monheit, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Herbie Hancock, John Coltrane, Dave Grusin or...

Alejandro Sanz, It Bites, Yes, Rush, Asia, Peter Gabriel, Robert Plant, David Bowie, Lou Reed, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani or ...

Alejandro Sanz, Toumani Diabaté's Symmetric Orchestra, Ayub Ogade, Youssou N'Dour or ...

Alejandro Sanz, Vivaldi's "Gloria", Faust's "Requiem" ...

It's very diverse, but always influenced by what I'm doing. For the poetry I'll listen to instrumental music, or something in a foreign language - the words I write are influenced by the melodies.

Have to say that Alejandro Sanz is my main man though :w00t: - the world's greatest singer IMHO, with other attributes as well LOL

I have a switch on my speakers to put off the power:lachen001

I dont want to give the wrong impression, I DO love music, but jazz comes out a little "skinny" of my speakers and Wagner makes me put to much melodrama in my fractals. I tend to go way over the edge:rolleyes:

Oh, I liked your story about cutting the cables. (sticks head into sand) I'll just pretend that you never said that LOL.

I know the thin sound that your talking about, I just wouldn't play some music on my computer untill I got decent speakers- you think that jazz sounds bad through those tiny tinny speakers, you should try some of the stuff that I listen too...bleugh! It sounds awful. Actually, most of the stuff I have sounds pretty awfulk on MP3 as well, it loses a lot of the texture of the sound....most of my music is in 'lossless' format (FLAC- free lossless audio codec), meaning that the files haven't had information removed to make the file smaller. (drawback- instead of a 5Mb file for a typical song, they end up being 30Mb!)

Thats why I hooked up my stero to the 2nd machine I have, so I can play whatever I want, whenever I want, within reason.

LOL @ melodrama. I don't play some of the heavier tracks when I'm using apophysis, or any other comuter graphic programmes, cause I really don't need to be jigged up at all when I'm trying to concentrate/relax (I find apo very relaxing, untill I get worked up in which case it becomes, well, fustrating). If I'm doing something physical its a different case though....nothing like getting all stimulated/motivated by some music that gets the blood pumping! :boogie:

I listen to music all the time, not just when creating art. Half the time, I'm often singing long with it too! But sometimes, if there is a specific mood I need to capture I will put on something specific to suit that mood... though I haven't been able to be much creative just for the sake of it for quite some time now, partly because I've had other things I've had to work on instead.

Sometimes also, I will find the music distracting and turn it off, but not often.

I wish I could!!!!

I cannot do multi-tasking! That means that if I'm listening to music, that's all I can do, and I'll thoroughly enjoy it - if I don't I put something else on, lol!

If I'm doing art, that's all I can do at that time. If someone interrupts my thoughts as I'm creating an image, then I lose the thread, and I certainly can't hold a conversation at the same time as doing the next brush-stroke.

If I'm writing something and then reading it back to ensure it makes some sense, and someone interrupts me, again I have to start right from the top again to ensure the flow and what I'm saying all connects and there are no words missing, etc.

I find too, that if I'm sent to a site to read some potent words under a beautiful image, and there's music playing at the same time from that page, I just have to switch off the sound (or rather I don't switch it on in the first place until I've read the words) otherwise, can I assimilate what I'm reading? Can I heck! lol!

Unfortunately this is due to what is known as sensory overload. It's one of the really difficult-to-handle symptoms I have with the chronic illness I have. It also means I cannot bear to be in busy, noisy, highly lit places for example! Such places exhaust me in minutes! It's a bummer when it comes to attending parties and the like! lol!

I almost live the life of a hermit! Silence, peace, quietude, these are all a must for me. But when I do want to listen to, or even play some music, then I do it with all I have in me - I drink it in and wallow in it, joyfully or sadly, depending on its mood!
