On the lines of paper mache we would do sugared string art. Its really easy.

Its a heavy sugar syrup made by using 2parts sugar to 1 part water and boiling it then let it cool.. Wrap a balloon with string in all directions til the ballon is covered in a small lacy looking design. Paint the string on the ballon with the sugar water and hang it somewhere over paper so that catches the drips to dry. When its dry its very hard. Just stick a pin in and pop the balloon and take it out. Then you have this hard ball of string thats hollow inside. You can use a small hack saw or scissors and cut openings in it. It makes a great idea to make easter eggs. Cut an opening in it and add easter grass and small animals to make a lovely scene or tie ribbons on it anything to make a basket. And it can be made in any size to by the different sizes of your balloons.

I remember my son and I made a mobile of the gallaxy using this method once. :) was a lot of fun. And the cub scouts used it once to make easter baskets which they took to different poor people in town.

Honestly, absolutely ALL what you are telling and writing about it is extremely interesting! All what I did from this material was a head of a human (if I remember right it was a head of woman). It was long time ago in a school during our art classes. When I finished this head it was taken to the school Art Museum ... So many good things were gone since...

I remember back in school making paper mache volcanos! lol and that was like 50 years ago. Also we used to do this stuff to make landscapes. I can't remember the exact ingrediants, I'll have to find it if I can, but we would make landscapes using I believe paste and sand. Something like that. They would be gritty I do remembe that much. and when they dried they were rock hard. My son made a mask in school of paper mache, its a devil lol suits him!
