THE THEME FOR THE MAY TERRAGEN CHALLENGE, chosen by the winner of the last contest (hey, that's me!), IS

******* "ARCHAEOLOGY" *******

This contest is a lot different, theme-wise.
Mostly, using terragen and particular terrains and a bit of postwork (SEE RULES BELOW!!!!!!) you have to give the idea that this was a place of ancients, where man have left their marks. You can do pyramids, lines on the terrain, monoliths, buildings, roads with you terrain utilities. Also you can use particular textures for surfaces, and some limited postwork.

RULES:

1) ALLOWED POSTWORK: only small sized objects (no more than approximately one tenth of the image surface): ancient inscriptions, runes, any archaeological related objects (like shovels, compass, map, jewels), and things like these. Please DO NOT USE OBJECTS that have nothing to do with ARCHAEOLOGY!
Obviously the usual resizing, level adjustment, sharpening etc is allowed.

2) Up to THREE images for each artist. The images must not have been published here or in another site before this contest.

3) The contest will run until MAY, 26th. The voting, by a thread I will open at the right time, will start on the same day and end MAY, 30th. Each person who has submitted an image will have THREE votes to cast on images, which will all be worth ONE point, while other hosts and users not partecipating will have ONE vote worth ONE point to cast. If you need any explaination, please refer to the "Voting in terragen contests" thread for a reference on how to vote.

4) The winner will CHOOSE THE THEME FOR THE NEXT OFFICIAL I.T. TERRAGEN CONTEST!

5) You may begin to upload your images from MAY 2nd, and the last images must be online on MAY, 26TH. The images MUST NOT HAVE BEEN PUBLISHED on this or other sites.

6) For any questions please use this thread, and I'll try and answer a.s.a.p. (but note that on saturdays and sundays I am not online, and given the period, please if there's anything really important, PM me also!).

GOOD WORK!!!!!!!

lior take a look here (http://www.innertraveler.com/publicgallery/showphoto.php?photo=27765&date=1146666872) I think this is more what Rev like to see,
ARCHAEOLOGY I think historical period more than thousand years ago in parts of the Old World, and sometimes a few hundred years ago from now

I think how sad and what is also one of the most black page in our history The Second World War is not something what Rev. has in his mind.

I'm sure Rev has not such an idea in his mind.
II only explained what ARCHAEOLOGY means for me so this concept is unforgiven this is on of the reasons I have never generated any landscape with Terragen reprensenting any pyramid 'cause Jews were slaves in Egypt and they built Ramses...it's written in the Bible!Do you think a would generate any landscape with pyramids?????????

For this contest purpose, I would surely define Archaeology as something that doesn't study modern history (so, WW II has nothing to do with it).

Moreover, Lior, Archaeology is a Scientific Discipline that has nothing to do with moral implications of the things it studies.
Monuments and archaeological findings represent indeed actions of the past, which may bring philosophical thoughts about bad or good implications these artifact had.
But, knowledge of the past, even of bad things like slavery and persecution, helps us to remember how much those things were wrong, shout "no more!", and teach our children to respect and act with a solid moral!

It is like Rev.says we must learn out the past, but sad as it is after WW II people shout never again war,but what do you see War in more than one country, they are the forgeten wars, never in the news but they are there(Africa)slaves even today we have them, even kids working 12 hours and more a day, sold by their parents, to the employer, not much changed

and like Rev says :and teach our children to respect and act with a solid moral!they are our future!

I also do not know how I can create a landscape with a pyramids,buildings...,the only thing I can do is a few lines.I do not have photoshop and I have also no clue how it works.

If I can not create a landscape with the theme, simple as it is I will not enter a terragen for this challenge.

you must not always enter a work lior,if you do not like this theme you just pass for this challenge and look forward to the next theme.this is what I do.

So everyone time to get that Terragen out and start creating !!

Hi VOS :)

Look at http://www.innertraveler.com/publicgallery/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=2693 I only express peace...or children's innocence :smooch:

Without photoshop, I can express what I feel thanks to Terragen....;)

I won't be in such a contest, I don't agress you but I only express my point of vue...I'm against archeology and don't forget many of us believe in God.... ;)

Lior:

Definitions of archeology on the Web:

the scientific study of past human cultures by analyzing the material remains (sites and artifacts) that people left behind.
www.saa.org/publications/sampler/terms.html

The discovery, recovery, and study of material evidence or artifacts (ie structures, tools, clothing, implements and burial sites in various states of preservation) of past human life and culture.
www.apsu.edu/wet/whatis.html

The process of study of past human cultures through analyzing material remains.
www.nps.gov/colo/TEACHERS/SG_Act/ArchGlossary.html

A knowledge of ancient art, customs, the science that studies the extinct relics of ancient times.
www.dreamghar.com/a1dic.htm

the branch of anthropology that studies prehistoric people and their cultures
wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

Without Archaelogy we would know nothing of those that went before us, how they lived, how they died, who they worshipped, how they worshipped. We would have no knowledge of wonderous people like the aztecs, the incas, the egyptians or even of our own beginnings - stone age man, bronze age man etc. Imagine how impoverished our lives would be without this knowledge. I would like to think that in centuries from now something we have left behind will prove useful to future generations. Even if they only learn how we almost destroyed our own planet.

Hi Friend ;)

Firmament and SO plugins are a part of Terragen possibilities so I don't think it'd be borbiden.

Have a good luck :)

Absolutely no problem concerning any terragen plugin. Remember also that Postwork means you can add external things taken from any other image (given you have the right/permission to do so) or created directly by yourself on the Terragen render with any other program, like photoshop, poser, 3d programs and so on.
