View Full Version : Something Different
I'm putting this in here because well, I came in for coffee, and decided to drag it along to show it. LOL This is what I call alternative MM. I actually used Poser, Vue and PSP8 in part of it's creation. It's alomost finished...I still need to do the bead work on the butterflies and the fae wings. It's o.k. if you spill something on it. I'll just pretend it was supposed to look like that!!! *grins*
looks great - fine work .

What a very beautiful wall-hanging! Excellent artwork and design, and a lovely thing to share over coffee! Now surely this is really a tapestry??

How beautiful! I'm trying to figure out how you got the printing onto the material - does it take a special kind of printer, or what exactly - print out some kind of applique that you can then iron onto the tissue?
That must be so fulfilling to make something like this that is so artistic and at the same time touchable! Thanks for bringing it in to show!

Oh wow looks like Grandma's quilt!! Awesome work, just how did you do that??? :)
Very lovely!!!!Excellent job!!!!I too like to know how did you do that???
Judee, printing on fabric is easy and requires no special tools. You can purchase photo transfer fabric/paper, but I have never tried it because I like the freedom to use my own fabric. All you do is cut a piece of fabric 81/2 x 11, cut a piece of freezer paper the same size, and iron the freezer paper to the wrong side of the fabric. The freezer paper stabilizes the fabric and allows you to use it like stiff paper. Just run it through your printer. If you plan on using it in a washable piece, you have to buy a chemical that fixes the printing to the fabric, but I don’t do that. Then you can use a fusible web on the back of the image, cut it out and iron it onto …whatever!
The two faeries and an Apo flame were done using this method. The rest of the quilt pieces were hand drawn, cut out individually, padded and hand sewn to the background. I find this very, very relaxing! Oh, I also print up my own fabric when I need a color/pattern that I need and don’t have. (like in some of the flowers) I can then just cut it up the way I need it. This little wall quilt ended up with a little bit of everything I’ve always wanted to put into a quilt. The outside triangles are woven like potholders (remember from when you were a kid?) from strips of fabric, then cut on the diagonal to make triangles. LOL It was a totally fun and relaxing project. I’m not sure I’ll still be saying that when I start beading, but who knows. Maybe I’ll do ribbon embroidery on it instead. No rules!!!!
thanks for the info Q. R. - thats neat way to do them .
I hand draw my shirts too . lot of fun .

Thanks, QR, it's interesting to hear how it's done - doesn't make it sound any easier to me though, lol, I really admire your ability to do this. And I can see how it might be relaxing, kind of a zen experience in creation. I'd never be able to do it because of the fine handwork and my eyes would never be able to focus on it so I'd probably end up tiwh thousands of needle pricks, lol!
It's truly beautiful work, must be so fulfilling! Thanks again for showing it off here in the TP - I promise not to spill even a tiny drop of coffee on it!

Indeed thanks for sharing - how ingenious!! I thought it was embroidery when I first saw it, and I was thinking how many hours it must have taken :) What a lovely way of preserving your art and sharing it too.
