View Full Version : Confused...

Hey there,

I'm wondering whether it's just me but does no-one seem to be viewing others work anymore. I myself have posted images recently (within last month) and have only had 6 views on my work and no comments??? Have I become invisible. I have noticed other artists too that have received very few views of their work and i'm confused.

I post my work to recieve honest critique (good and bad) but i'm not getting anything. Makes you feel like 'what's the point?' I used to really find this place a friendly, interactive place but it seems now that no one is interested. In fact i've recently cleared out half my gallery and rarely visit here nowadays. In fact I have recently considered leaving. This isn't the only place I post my work but like I said I've always liked it here.

Also, and i've mentioned this before, all the site seems bent towards Poser, Animation and music. There are no open challenges just for general art and artist of the month confuses me?? How is this decided and on what merits??

Usually I wouldn't say anything but I felt like speaking out. Maybe it's just me, or my work doesn't appeal to anyone.

Don't take this like I have a big ego cos I don't. I just honestly wondered why this is happening??

Thanks Banky

I know what you mean about gallery views, but this is not really a big site yet in terms of numbers. You say you display your art at other sites too - but if they are well established and long running sites their membership is probably a lot higher as a result. We are building up the membership levels and we are still a fairly "young" site.

AOM is taken from the galleries in general, we, the moderators, each select 3 artists that we think have produced noteworthy art work, and from all the artists thus nominated there is a vote taken, from that the AOM is selected.

I understand your frustation at geting so few veiws and comments, but give it time  Believe me you are not invisible. The Moderators try to get round the gallery and leave comments where possible, but as most (if not all of us) have full time jobs (and for my self - a house to run as well) we just can't be everywhere. Stick with us - we are growing and will continue to do so. We currently have just over 700 members, R'osity has about 20,000. We'll get there too!!!
PS - I just checked your gallery and cannot find an image with no comments -(unless you deleted those) the average seems to be about 8 which in my opinion is not too bad.

I'm with Engel47 on this one. She answered most of your questions perfectly!

As for the bending to Poser, Animation and Music part I think that for the last two this is great. Those are exactly the postings that separate IT from all the other sites and could generate in the future additional viewers and listeners and get this site known!
On the other hand your observation on views and comments also applies on these categories. It seems that few people take the time to view/listen and leave comments.

So all I could say is bare with us and leave as many comments as you can. It's the only way to give this site a change to grow.

I will only add to the previous comments a couple of things. I think the reason why it seems bent towards Poser, Animation and Music is possibly because the moderators active in those areas are working hard to promote those aspects they are in charge of. It's not to say that other 2d or 3d art, or the writer's forum aren't just as valuable to this place, just that the moderators aren't as active - most likely because they are busy.

I've been fairly quiet myself here recently, not because I don't enjoy IT, but because I have another project that's taken over my time, and I've put a lot of time towards it in order to get it over and finished with so that I can put more time into IT.

I've always enjoyed looking at your work, banky. If it seems that It is getting too quiet, is there anything you can suggest that might help liven things up again? What sort of contests would you like to see being run? Or are there any other ways you can think of for an artist to promote their work so that people will come and look at their gallery? We'd love to hear any suggestions you might have to make IT a place you'd like to be a part of. Perhaps you can offer to help run a contest, which would be great, what do you think of that?

I think that having an open technique competition would be good. Basically just set an idea or theme and allow people to interpret in their own way. As for judging etc I dunno an open vote throughout the community or a moderators vote. Something along those lines. I think it'd be cool if all was involved though. It's not that I mind the Poser challenges etc. it's just that on any online art forum there is never anything that allows 2D artists etc. to be involved in. I mean I use poser but I wouldn't call myself a 'Poser artist'. It's just nice as an artist to have something to participate in.

I dunno how other artists feel??? I see a lot of talented artists on this site who don't fall into the usual categories and maybe it's not a good idea to alienate them from being involved so to speak.

I think it'd be nice to see what other 2D artists/photographers etc. think to this.

:)

p.s. Yeah I removed the work from the last month.

One of the contest 'themes' being run on another site I belong to (granted, it is Lightwave, but the theme could apply anywhere) is to take a theme such as 'purple' or in the case of this contest, what happens when someone disobeys a, 'Keep Off The Grass', sign. I think it's a wonderful idea, and something as broad as that allows anyone to take the idea and run with it in any way they choose. Is that the sort of thing you're thinking of?

yeah definately. Those sort of themes make you think and a challenge is always welcome :) Plus it's a theme that can be interpreted through all mediums.

Good idea - a challenge that just sets a theme and leave it open to the artist to interpret that theme in their own chosen medium.

The Poser challenge was in fact my idea Banky - being one of the poser forum moderators, and trying to generate some ideas to bring more "life" to the site. But this sounds like an excellent idea, we will have to make the suggestion in the Moderators Forum and see what the others think and how it can be run and managed. Keep your eyes peeled for an announcement :bounce:
