View Full Version : Voting Discussions

On first, to everyone: sorry for having not been around last days, but it seems that everytime I had a few spare minutes at work, this %£$#! [censored by myself] site was down.

SECOND, and most important. I have seen that there is a bit of a discussion the way terragen contest have to be voted. So let me express publicly my idea and explain once and for all the way you may cast your votes.

MY IDEA: I don't like the way we usually vote. I do use the votes in other contests and AOM, but the 5, 3, 1 pts idea doesn't really suit to my mind.
FIRST because I don't think that one single person saying that image (or artist) is number one for him/her, counts exactly as FIVE persons saying it is number three. This way there's much more space for "friends" behaviours (I guess you know what i mean), and anyway it sounds bad to me that being recognised by five persons (at the third place) is the same that being exalted by one person (at the first place).
FURTHERMORE, when I am judging artists and images, I don't like the "rigid" idea of my first choice counting five times my third. This because most of the times there's really a HARD time to decide between images/artists, and the call is so close they should almost get five points all of the three, or something like 5,5,4, or 5,4,3 not 5,3,1.

TERRAGEN VOTING:
If you partecipate with at least one image, you get three *points* to distribute like this: 1+1+1 (three images) or 2+1 (two images) or 3 (one single image), or even 1+1 or just 2 or 1 meager point, because you can chose not to use all of the points.
This is because it is up to each one of us decide whether there is one image *really better* than the others, or two great images, or even three images one can't really decide which is better. FLEXIBILITY is my one word. This way one may decide how to distribute points according to his/her feelings.
IMPORTANT: there's *no priority* in vote casting, if you vote three images, it doesn't matter which one you mention first: they all get ONE point!!! At the end I will just COUNT the points and decide the winner.

One last thing. While I see that it is quite appreciated the fact that those who did not partecipate still have one point to cast, I have read someone suggesting that points allowed should be proportional to the number of images submitted (one image - 1 pt to cast, etc...).
Don't like it, I think that someone prefers to work a lot on an image and submits just one, while others prefer to show more ideas and dedicate less time to each one and submit 2 or 3 images. I don't think we should privilege naked numbers and the spare time one has to dedicate to the contest, but quality and goodwill.

LASTLY: I am quite sure there is NO perfect way of voting, nor IT one, neither mine, but I hope you all may understand my point of view.

I think a vote must be an anonym vote and we've not have to know who realised the artwork..., may be I'm wrong ?

You can not please everyone, some like to vote this way other not
some like to vote other prefer not to vote

I think a modeator that run the challenge can say we vote like this they must count the vote, and they must feel good with the counting(sorry can not explain it in better english)

Take a look here this is a thread where you can say what you think about voting
1--http://www.innertraveler.com/messagecenter/showthread.php?t=1848

Bryce poll (just becauce I like to know, what members like)
2--http://www.innertraveler.com/messagecenter/showthread.php?t=1879

you say also:not have to know who realised the artwork...,

some artist have their unique style you just see the pic and you know it is from them

Challenges are for fun,you try to create something with the theme, and if your work fits with the theme bravo!!!

If it's a contest for fun, you can apply any rule you want 'cause it's for fun and it's not like an exam'
For a contest, do we vote for the artwork or the member?
A vote would be an anonym vote too.

I saw the rules of all your contests
1/we know who's the user
2/it's not an anonym vote

That's to say it's not a challenge but ....

An artwork based on the feeling that's to say the winner would have a better feeling than another one?

I understand you invite me not to stay, it doen't matter I've not uploaded a while ago.

I only expressed what I think, only my opinion.

Rev,Robert_S,PPetersen...Robin are really excellent and outstanding artists ...so I didn't want to offence anyone and I'm not your ennemy.

im in agreement with Rev on this..but...I feel that we should vote the way the moderator sets it up..and Rev's way seems about the best to me..there is no 'perfect' way...

I only said my opinion not in an agressive language, it's a community ,a friend's community I thought but the way you express yourself is not a friend's language .
I'm not admin,I 'm not moderator but a simple member, may be I haven't to say my opinion 'cause I'm a niew member.
There is not any perfect way surely

I've understood I'm not welcome here so ....

Best Regards

When the first Terragen challenge start I think Rev was the only one that use Terragen(Think classylady and Ron also, but they did not post much Terragen) (Rev only play with Ter.program)

So he was mod here but has no members that post much Terragen pic
he put a question in this forum
and a few of us answer on it,so the first challenge start (not so long ago)

do not laugh but I think most of us did never use Terragen(first challenge)
I have download the free version, and I have no clue what this programs do,I just play with it,and if Rev write if you give it more fog our someting else, and he explain in simple words in his comment,I try and the pic looks indeed better(my language is not english)

yes for me challenge are fun I try to create a pic that fits with the theme
and I hope my works become better,

Challenge for fun??? Yes for some of us ,and for some of us it is a challenge for the first place
same with voting, not always easy, but sometimes you see a pic and think this is it,from the first monent you see it.

there is no perfect way to vote

we are different, you like this and I like something else, would be boring everything the same no?

you say also I'm not admin,I 'm not moderator, just a new member so what???

We are all equal, you can say what you think, and I can say it also

only thing I can say for the voting before you vote take again a look at the challenge gallery, just look at the pictures and do not look at the names under the pictures.

:bounce: and you are more than welcome!!!

( Edited by Rev: please Chris, don't "shout" ;) and, btw, I totally agree! )

PLEASE, epsylon, *no one* is offending you, and you are more than welcome, here. And Robin here is just expressing his thoughts in a polite way: I see no words that may be taken as "not friendly" in any way!!! Please, read again, maybe you have not understood well what he said, he is saying the same things I say with slightly different words, and it is not against you, nor anyone of us in any way!

Epsylon, I appreciate a lot the fact that you want to help, and that you propose your ideas, and I have to agree with you that in certain cases anonymous contests are the best way to go, mostly in big sites, or in places where it is clear that friends are voting for friends.

But at the same time I must say that Innertraveler is a place that hosts mainly adult, smart and friendly people, and where honesty should prevail, and I see no reason to conceal names. Furthermore, as Vos said, there are many artists that you can tell the name just looking at their images. You know, I can tell a Sassenach image from a Robin one, a Ppetersen one from a Vos one, a jrsaldana one from a classylady one, and probably a lot of people out there can tell if an image is mine or, say, yours, so most of the times the style of the artist easily reveals his/her name.

Please Epsylon, consider the fact that most of us have our different ideas, and I would like to respect everyone's thoughts, and yours too, and rest assured that if in the future I'll see the need of concealing artists names in the contests, I'll propose your idea to the admins. At the time being, though, I feel that things are better left as they are.

Sorry for the shouting,my apologies

still think We are all equal and we are all different too(and this is very good!!)

I understand some of us like a other way to vote, some of us like to have also other rules for the challenges
and you have also members that like to enter but not like to vote, for them it is just a challenge to create someting with the theme

But I think on others sites you have also rules for challenges and voting

a big
Chris
