I'm trying to figure out a fair and appropriate amount to allocate to each person. Let me know if you think about 100 megs.

Points to consider:

a) how much does the most person have currently? (that is, before it was changed to 20M, what was the most space a person had used up?) Use this as a guide to what should be allowed in future.

b) how much space do you have to give away? If 700 people have 100M currently, will that still hold true when we have 1000 members? 2000?

c) someone who uploads music or animation can EASILY use up 100M, someone who only uploads images or fiction may never reach their limit. Finding a happy medium between the two won't be easy.

My own thoughts... if you're prepared to allow 100M to everyone, I'm happy with it. I could be happy with 50M, but then I haven't gotten to the point where I'm wanting to upload and can't because of space.

Glenn.

By making your decision on the amount of disk space for each User, I think the most important question is " can I guarantee this in the long run "?
Like Rumour stated, would it be possible to maintain that amount when the User number runs in the thousands?

50 MB is ' Room to Move ' for contributers who are uploading 3D Graphics but rather ' Tight ' for Animation and Music. But then again, it is always possible that these posters delete some of their tracks to make room for new ones. However, this will ruin the overall impressions of their work, as well as the possibility to follow their improvements over time.

Stability on every department of the site is the most important factor, I think.

Would the limit apply for everyone, or is it for subscribers?

Thats only a question of money i think - The site must be paid - if you want to pay for all of us than make an open end limit :) but than you will be poor man in a few month and the site will be closed :(
So i think that a space of 20MB is ok for testing this site - i could load 200-300 Pix in this 20mb space - that are more pix than i will create in my whole live :) I wont think about a paying membership as a PicLoader than.

-- or i could load 10-20 songs (with a low-quality-sound) - Thats enough for me for a while - but than i would think about a membership - if the communitie is good for me

I think you should find a way to give registered users the choice of two Upload Areas - ones for Pix with 5MB and ones for Movies and Songs with 20-30 MB - or is that impossible?

!!!!!!!!!!!but the Users which use more than 5 or 20 MB now, should be able to load at least a few pix after those changes - and please tell us BEFORE doing something :)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would pay for a normal-membership(12.99) with a space of 50MB for Songs and a Space for pix of 20 MB.
ca. 1,-$ in a month is absolutely ok i think.

PS:a little comparison:
I pay for a nice little german Communitie 2,-€(ca.2$) at the month and i have a Space of 10MB (i use ca.2 MB of this space with ca.30 Pix)- If nobody would pay for it there wont be this communitie - and the admin is not become a richmen by takeing this money of us members. Registered Users only could use the Gallery for two weeks - thats not the best way to get new membersi think - but ok.
