Does anyone know how to make nice diffuse lighting work on a plain setup? Basically I want something that doesn't cast a harsh shadow on the ground. I've been using spotlights mainly, as I'm told that's the way to do it, but then I either get circles or the shadows still end up way to harsh. I've also tried making a skydome according to a tutorial, but so far I've yet to make it work like it's supposed to. Anyone have any ideas/suggestions for me?

on what you are doing and what you are using - Is it Poser, Vue, Bryce??? I think more info might help you get a clear answer :sherlock:

Hmm, yes well the program might help, huh? I'm using Lightwave, but I figure I'm intelligent enough to be able to work around and cope with advice given for other programs as well. Makes it a bit trickier, but surely it can't be any more of a challenge than I'm having now. :crutch:

So far it's been something of a mission to set up lighting that casts a nice diffuse shadow - they all end up harsh and severe like in broad daylight, which is fine if I wanted that, but basically I just want to display a model without having overly harsh shadows detracting from the model. It'd help if I ever did a scene of a cloudy day too. ;)

Sorry Rumour - can't help there - never used it. Perhaps we have a few lightwave afficinado's that can help though - if they ever find their way into the forums :spacecraf

I know in Poser an Vue you can play with the shodow properties and get the kind of shadow you want, a sharp one or a very light one, might try the shadow settins/properties for that particular light you want to change.
( Maybe) lol
