I started this thread to continue the discussion about infrared effects in Photoshop. I think this topic deserves its own thread.
This is the posts so far
I found this at RDR about Infrared. Maybe you can make heads or tails of it :eyepoppin
Comes from: TwoPynts
Camera Used: Olympus C-8080, Hoya R72 Filter & PhotoshopCS
Details: For those interested, here is my basic methodology for postworking an infrared photograph.
I open the file in Photoshop and first I use Auto Levels, then fade it a bit if necessary. I minimize the hot spot as much as possible using a series of circular feathered selections and levels adjustments. Being long exposures from an unconverted camera, they are quite noisy and I then use the dust & scratches filter to get rid of the worst offenders. Before that though, I used the cloning tool to get rid of any really big hot pixels.
The rest of this depends on the image. I sometimes use the Shadows/Highlight adjustment to even out the tones a bit. Then I copy the layer and 'multiply' it to darken things up a bit, fading the opacity until it looks right. I then heavily sharpen that layer. Since it is mostly transparent, it is not as harsh as you may think. I flatten it, reduce the size in stages -- slightly sharpening along the way. Toning in the hue/saturation adjustment is done at the end. Add a frame and title and viola, finished.
as I said; :eyepoppin
It sounds to me like postwork on an infrared shot because they talk about hot spots, etc. I wonder if there is a filter out there to use in photoshop or psp that would "fake it" .LOL
