View Full Version : Subscribing to a thread

Ever wanted to know when the latest news is posted to a thread you're interested in? Near the top of the thread there is a pull down menu, and one of those items is: "Subscribe to this thread". So now you need never miss a reply! :blahblah:
Also you can rate a thread you feel is not one to be missed giving it the five star streatment and in doing so, informing others of the valuable information the thread contains - but please use wisdom and caution when rating a thread. Consistently rating threads badly is not good form and would have to be pretty bad (i.e. have degraded to name calling and offensive/insulting language) for it to be rated 'Terrible'.

Actually, what is the consequence of a bad-good rated thread? I mean, I had a 5 star vote on this, to see an example of voting and what happens next, but I don't see any difference.
Sorry for this stupid stupid question, but I haven't never voted a thread.

I haven't much voted a thread either, but I can see the value of it. Say there's a great thread-tutorial telling you how to apply textures in a program, you read it, it's clear and consise, has useful images and step by step instructions, you learnt something when reading it, and would show it to others so that they might know it as well.
Or perhaps someone made a really good suggestion in the Q/P/A part of the forums and a lot of people were contributing good ideas, or there was a thread with links to very funny things... Rating a thread that way can be a valuable way of letting other users know which htreads are good ones to read.
I also thought it was just a useful thing to know, that there are options when viewing threads available to people.

I totally agree on this, but maybe I am blind :o The actual question is how (or where) do I see the vote I gave or other people gave to a thread? EDIT: is the "rating" sorting the only way you can know which are the most interesting threads? Given the fact I can't see any difference when I click on it, does it mean that there are no votes on the threads?
Sorry, I feel even more stupid, asking this

You know, you're right. I can rate a thread but can't see how to see what threads have been rated! :imslow: I thought I'd test it out but you're right, and even though I know I rated a thread I can't tell it was rated at all. Perhaps there's an added option somewhere I need to activate to see it, but it will have to wait until later, because I need my beauty sleep. ;) :meditate:

Okay I just rated this thread and after I did I did see the stars it maybe, because you started the thread that it does not show for you..
see example. it is there and I still see the stars after I uploaded the example now I did the rating before commenting it could also be only visable to the one who posted although I doubt highly since you did post one has to be another minor problem in the system.

Sorry such a pain but trying to help here. I had Ron go to the Fractal forum I had rated nothing. so I had him rate it and yes by all means he gets exactly what I do here. in both areas...Stars all over the place. So then I go back to that very same forum thread and there they are all over the place. in both places. I am wondering if more then 1 person has to rate a thread before it shows. like you did here I would have been the second one at least to rate it.
Hope that helps or gives an idea of where to look for the problem.

Oh, now...
...I see those stars!
What happened in the meanwhile? I assure you that after my voting, and before my break for lunch I didn't see stars at all in any thread, any forum!!!
Was it for the missing caffeine dose? :)

At another MB that I belong to there is also a rating system like this one. If you rate it 1 to 5 stars it doesn't show tils one else rates. Don't know why but thats how it works.
On the other board the only reason to rate the threads is to show which ones have the most posts and are posted to all the time. The stars show on the main thread page so its easy to see which ones have the most posts. Diffferent than here thats for sure, but basically both boards work the same.
