A link about colour correction, lighting, sharpening and other Terragen images adjustments:
http://ea-brc.netfirms.com/tutors/colour/aindex.htm
It is a good tut for it shows you where Terragen images are usually week, but, as always the amount of correction to apply is up to one's tastes!
In a couple of months I'll do a tutorial myself, most on my personal sharpening techniques (hehe, let's hope it turns out good :) ).

I would honestly love to learn more about Terragen, but don't know if it's worth the effort with just the unregistered version. There seem to be so many little(but important) problems with it. One really big one for me is that the render (even the million or so small ones I do as I go along) don't look anything like the preview. I scrap 99% of them and then just give up for a while. Also, in the unregistered version, the more texture layers you use (I still can't figure the relationship between parent/sibling/child layers) the more chance you have of the program just freezing up. I have a pretty good computer system, but the problem seems more to do with the program than it does with my equipment.

As I'm still relatively new to TG, the suggestions I can give are as follows:
Relationships :
I start with a basic overall surface, depending on the look I want. Usually either a light grey or a light beige. I add 'three' children to this. To each child I add two more children... Then I begin my colorations... naming each as I go. I don't often do sibling as it confused me in the beginning and i've my 'method' fine tuned now. Of course some of my texturing has gone to an extreme with over 20 layers in all. :)
Terragen itself:
The only difference honestly in the Unregistered and registered is the ability to do a difference in the sky and or the terrain by using your render settings.. other than that it's only the rendering of a larger image. All the baiscs are in the free version including a gamma adjusting which deepens the tones of the image.. :)
Hope this helped a tiny bit...and I know revenant can give you more direction .. :)

Maybe I should uninstall the one I have and re-download it? I had to do that with something else a while back, and when I was using Poser4, I had to reinstall a couple of times becuase of file corruption (or something) I do notice that half of the atmo and texture files I have created no longer work, and I get error messages when I try to use them.
Gamma adjust to a higher number?

I think you should just try downloading it again Q.R. Probably some sort of glitch caused a file coruption.

Well, I did get sort of that problem a while ago with terragen (when I used my reg version). I had to reinstall. It worked quite well. There is a bug in Terragen that sometimes corrupts the terrains you modify and save, in a strange way, though: there appear to grow immensely high peaks here and there. I usually do a copy of an original terrain I modify. ;)
For those who use the SOpack plugin (that's the one that allows you to put textures on Terragen surfaces): it has a bad bug that totally freezes the computer if you do one specific operation. The only way to go through it is to *always* keep another open maxed out window (a directory window, a word page, whatever...) below terragen. Don't ask me why this works, quite odd uh?
For the Surfacing problems, I have put a few hints in a new topic which you can see in the forum!!!

Thank you all very much! I think I printed out 20 pages of stuff this morning before becoming obsessed with a Bryce waterfall. I think I'm going to uninstall Terragen and reinstall it. Maybe it will work better.
