I have pinned this thread, so that it remains on top for a while.
If anyone has more to suggest...

http://www.mclusky.co.uk/firmament/

For those who do not know: firmament is a tool for importing different kind of image files in .ter format. I strongly suggest to use .raw format, but .bmp can be good to some extent. This way one can create and modify terrains, and obtain results like this:

Thanks guys for all the wonderful links :( I have them all just don't know how to use them right, :raincloud boy do I feel like this guy, here we have everything you've listed I guess just never took the time to try them out and use them.

I do have a question mainly because I just never could understand what they actually were and that is a DEM file. I kind of understand it has to do with geological mapps ?? next I'll check out the tuts have a feeling we already have them just again never used them :( ok so kick me :moon: I know I deserve it... talk to you later

No question is a stupid question. The only stupid question is the one that goes unasked :-). So no problem in asking! :)

This is one of the many links which explain what is a DEM, so I could give you an answer, but better leave it to professionals :reading:

Thanks for the link I forgot to thank you I did go check it out seems it does cost to get any or you can get free ones via ftp gosh I haven't used an ftp program now for at least 5 years now we post to our site with Microsoft Front Page.

I know Chronor's site has some Dem if anyone is interest
http://www.imaginature.us/ (http://) he not only has some downloads there but also tons of links to other sites with even more to download terrains and worlds from. The difference between the terrain and a world is a world is the complete scene with the sky I think?, texturing basically think of it as a parameter file say like in Apo when you load someone elses flame your going to get it all, colors etc, vs a terrain file where you more then likely will have to add texturing colors , atmo etc. hope this little tip helps. the only problem I can see is on an unregistered version the largest I think is 512x512 Terrain or TGW (world) where on a registered version it is unlimited.
you can also find these helpers at his site
TerraSource
Planetterragen
Timster
SOPack XX
WaterWorks XX
TGPGuilib XX basic libray to use these others
Solaris XX
LensFX
Firmament XX
3DEM
IrfanView
Mayang's Textures
the ones with the XX are if you really want to put out a good render Frankly the only one I use is Water Works
plus like I said there are links to some of the top, top Terragen people around the world. with even more links to others sites from the list he has. check it out it sure won't hurt anything.

I have a question... I'm on a Mac using a Mac version.. will I be able to use these files?... I hope so but if not is there a Convertor like in Poser? I would really like to try and make something with this but want to try to understand how it works and what alterations I can make to what parts...

Huh, that's a difficult question for a PC user. I'd say most of them are available in Mac version, as I have come to know a few people doing TG with mac, and using some of those. If I could only recall those names... I think that you can go verify on their home sites, whose link is to be found, for the major part of them, on Planetside here

http://www.planetside.co.uk/terragen/resources.shtml

OH! I see that on that page you can actually see, beside the link, which are available for both PC and Mac!!!! and I have looked at that page for YEARS, now
Also, I see that some plugins which are windows only (SOpack, for example), should have their Mac counterpart (SOoverlay, in SOpack case...).

I don't bother with many of the downloads. My connection is too slow. (it took me four full days to download Bryce, and I left a couple of things out because I'd never ue them) I generally create my own terrains and atmos. I did snag the plug-ins way back when I got interested in terragen, and now export the terrains as obj. files to try out in Bryce. So far i still think terragen with figures created in Poser, and put together in PSP works best for me.
