Not sure how many do read this forum but in case you do ... how about answering this with ideas or thoughts you wish to share in regards to what you want to see here :) and while you're sharing, perhaps a word or two in the way of 'challenges' :)

I do hope some will answer this as I do see lots of Artists in the Forums ....

as always

Not being one with any real bent for Fine or Traditional art myself... I wouldn't mind some tips on how one might start to learn how to draw or paint something cool.

I even mess up the "Paint by Numbers" things... lol!

Give me a computer and some funky software that does the hard stuff for me and I'm in heaven... but I'd really love to be able to try a physical medium with a little success.

LOL Tracey thats funny!! mess up the paint by numbers .. hey I do to!! :p Anyway Hugs Pat welcome and Im so glad you decided to take this forum.

Traditional Art is my favorite type. Unfortunetly I just can't do it much anymore. My hands are not able to do it as well as I would like so thats why I stick to poser and bryce and vue. But I have oil painted and used acrylics and worked with pastels and pen in ink in the past.

Maybe some help forums with hints on using different media Oh and maybe a challenge that is traditional art or .. program art using filters that makes it traditional looking.

I've seen a lot of vue or psoer work here that literally you would think an old master painted it.

anyway theres my two cents worth. Hugs Pat welcome to the foruum. :)

Yeahhhh two replies. Grins. Serious, tell you both a small secret... When i do draw I don't draw the 'traditional' way or rather the way you're taught in Art school. My teachers used to pull their hair out at my methods, but hey they worked for me. Most folks draw by using their eye and seeing shapes, yes all art is just that shapes molded and formed. Or at least that's my ancient thoughts.

And Lou Anne if you have your old art, dang it woman, load into PSP and go to town on it. You'd be surprised at what you can come up with. My 'judy' montage was done wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy back in 72 as part of my senior portfolio for college. Actually helped me get accepted back then. :) Same for the 'rennaissance lady' you may remember from ct. Both were quite weathered with age, hey they are over 30 years old... :) some of the watercolors I've done are about 10 years old but thank the stars for PSP to crisp and clear em up.

Back to drawing, easy peasy serious, as i tell my students. I'll do some digging for I know there are tuts' on the web for beginners and it's easier than you think.

I may upload those doodles I did on the train to give you an idea, but those were done without taking the pen off of the paper and if you look really close at the originals you see one continuous line. the postwork in PSP gives them another look :)

And using another program to umph or integrate your art is always a great way to give it new life.

The only thing I can do is enjoy the magnificent drawings that members post here!!!
challenges is a good idea, but I think you post than better a letter in the main gallery,so everone know it, not many members take a look in the forums.

Coolies Pat! I look forward to anything that might help me draw something that I don't cringe at... lol!

I don't care whether the help is of a formal or traditional style - maybe alternate methods will work better...

I failed art at school... in a big way... didn't do much for my confidence, let me tell you... I'm probably "damaged goods", so I'm up for trying anything.

Ok challenge... very easy to do..... take a variety of cans. Yes cans. draw them in overlapping circles. Whatever is pleasing to your eye. No shading yet... then take into your paint program and carefully color in each area in various shades of black/white and grey. You can do 'gradients' or different shades of grey/black/white but it should flow. You have an eye, it shows in your work. Everyone here does !!!

And gonna take you up on this Vos ... hmmm a circle challenge.. 'circle of life' lol... :))))All done in circles.

You post a letter the same way you post a pic Pat.

Another idea for traditional art would be similar pat, give them a pic like oh say a bunny and have them color it in their paint programs.. Like at CT remember. But I'd suggest you got a different pic maybe something more intriqute *sp* A black and white drawing you have to color. :) Would give people eve Tracy and Chris a chance to show off and maybe even learn a bit about painting.

You mean like draw different sized circles then shade them in with a program like PSP or something? Can I use the shape drawing tool in PSP instead? lol!

I don't have my scanner hooked up to any of my PC's at the moment, and taking a digital photo of a piece of paper with different sized circles on it would feel a bit silly.

I think I understand the concept here though, you don't want people totally relying on the program for the shapes creating boundaries that we can then flood fill, correct? You want us to try to actually paint with the program and stay inside the lines or similar?

Yes basically Tracey. If given a particular lined drawing you try to paint or decorate it your way. Using whatever means you have. Paint, Photoshop or Paintshop or anything else you may have. All you would have to do is right click and get the pic thats posted.. then.. do your thing! :D

Which see would give everyone equal oportunity to show off using the same thing. I mean we all can do our thing, what if we had to all do same thing? Wouldn't that show of our imaginations and talent? Think of how many different designs there would be!! The possibilities are infinate!!

You both got it. It can be done either way but if it's one single picture. I've also been thinking perhaps as a second idea, to take a line drawing. Simple one, heck I've enough of them and see what challenge it could give everyone and this could include any other program. With hand art, many other ideas can be incorporated.

But I'll get a simple set of shapes done up, then let everyone have a go at it. :) ehehehe.
