Just thought I would share you a simple and easy idea for post worked pleasts - This was done using Photoshop 7.

First - I have a circle - filled with the colour of my choice - you will presumably have an item of clothing you have painted :D

Next create a new layer and using the marquee tool mark out the area that you want for the pleats.

Now choose the flood fill tool set to gradient and here I have used a free gradient called GRAYdient picked up from the Adobe Exchange (free). choose a nice pleated looking gradient. I choose the far right one in the middle row.

Now pull the gradient tool across your marquee area in a straight line from left to right.

Now for the good bit. With the marquee still selected go to edit - transform - perspective and drag the top handles in towards the middle.

Lower the opacity level of the layer until you get something you are happy with - I settled on 58%.

Once you are happy with the opacity level hit apply to accept the changes to the perspective, then deselect the marquee and using the erase tool clean up the edges. This is the final effect. I am sure you will agree it is effective and has many uses.
