Well, let's get this party started here. The modelling forum is all about tips and techniques, your WIPs and and questions you want to ask about modelling. Doesn't matter what program you use, this place is independant of what software you're using, just how you use what you have.

So let's start it off with a question of mine... does anyone know where there's a place I can find a model (or a tut on how to make) a goat?

So I dropped in hoping to meet some models, either runway or magazine :brushteet

Seriously I will look around for a goat tutorial or model! Of course you could always you Picasso's stuff for reference.

I never thought of using Picasso for a goat, does he look like one? ;)

Welcome to the fold though. I'd like to take this opportunity to post up the latest model of mine, based on a fairly famous bow.

I got models, models, models but not for poser, I don't think anyway.
Very hard to build "figure" models for me. cars too.
Anything that looks like it flies or glides no problem as long as its not a living thing. Though my "BatFiter" model simulates wing-flapping.
I sent Engel47 a couple ruff mods but she never said heads or tails about em.
I can export outta anim8or in 3ds,obj,lwo. but I think ani8s 3ds exporter is corrupt so I fix em in openfx.
By default openfx resizes 3ds and exports same plus dxf vrml some others.
Most of my mods are shells and no parts. 1 thing about ani8 file is you can export/save the an8 file any size you make.
If ya want a couple to play with I can send ya or try to upload some here on the site.

So lets see some pics of your models? That's what this place is all about.

The modelling forum is the place to come and share your models or ask for tips - doesn't matter what format it is. I don't use Poser all that much now, I tend to use Lightwave, but that allows me to import files from other programs, so if it's dxf or 3ds, I can still make some use for it.

Modelling organic forms is one of the hardest things to do, since there are so many irregularities and features you have to account for. I've managed to model an asian lily without too many hassles, and will hopefully get on to doing either a cyclamen or a hybiscus. Texturing them will be a challenge. :Oogle_ani

Currently I'm working on a bucket. I threw on a wood texture, but it's still being worked on. Trying to make a hemp rope for the handle now.

Looking fairly swish there, although I think the texture on the second one is a bit overpowering, and obscures any details you might have in there. Are your models based on any sci-fi tv/movies?

The models I've posted here(this forum) are far from my best efforts, funny you say that of "SpaceYacht" it won much praise on other sites and 300+ views. Guess theres no accounting for taste site to site. I'll upload "Inspiration" model in the gallery later thats one of my better if not best model.
Thanks for your opinion Rumour.

Got no issues with the model itself, it looks fine. I've seen that texture (or one similar) used before and it's a pretty cool one too, it just seems to dominate the model too much, and in my opinion could be used more effectively if the bumps were smaller or another texture was used on the wing like extensions.

One thing I do like about how the texture is arranged along the side of the ship near the nose is how the gaps between the bumps look like they are cargo bays of some sort that could hold fighters or some sort of weaponry.

;) It's just an opinion however, don't take my word as gospel. I admit I'm a bit jaded when it comes to models of spaceships and airplanes etc. as there's so many out there. Anyone would think there was nothing else to model! :wow: Heheh but it's all good, I'll just keep on doing my own stuff and hope one day it gets good enough to get noticed.

PS. Swish was my slang for cool/fancy.

LoL,Rumour!
Don't worry about hurtin' my feelings this mod was almost a year ago.
My eye for textures has improved a lot(I make my own tex) since this. The .bmp mapping was maxxed in this render. It is quite gaudy if not ugly. I Know people who claim to use anim8or to model because 3dmax fires up so slow on their pc's or they use their work/school pc's for max but find modeling in ani8 easier or so I've read some say. I used to use the gmax modeler a cut-down version of 3dmax from the same people(discreet) I think that I'd love 3dmax and some say lightwave blows max away.
Since you use LightWave which is the best: 3dmax,C4D, or Lightwave?
And don't be afraid to bruise egos and tell it like it really is.

If I had ever used 3dMax or C4D, I could tell you. The only modelling programs I've used are Lightwave, a teeny bit of Maya but not enough to say whether it was better or not, and if you really want to push it, ACAD. I like LW best because I'm familiar with it, (an arguement you can use for any program over another) but even then I know there's a whole heap of things I don't know about it, and if I wanted to do it professionally, I'd have to be a lot faster. I've never tried anim8tor, but I'll give it a shot once I've got some spare time.

LoL,
I made that bubblely blue tex myself in anim8or. It was a sub-divided, face extruded plane. I've used anim8or to make what I call "3-D textures" but their not really 3d but when you keep maxxing the .bmp mapping it turns into a big ugly mess :eyepoppin in anim8or. Anim8or is a small primitive by what your used to program about 4 megs zipped. very, very few K-board commands and no "modifier stacks" if your used to those kind of options. Its mostly point and click. Heres anim8or ver.085 user interface-
