OK, everyone...
'r'u ready??? :D :D :D :D

THE THEME FOR THE CHALLENGE IS....

(ta daaaaa :juggle: )

*********** "DAWN" ************

A brief comment to the theme: you are going to see my sample image on the contest gallery, to get a hint of what I mean, but the theme could be used in any way you like, for any subject you see fit; just make sure the sun is there at the horizon! Actually, it is not necessary that sun appears completely in the render: see my image (HERE!) (http://www.innertraveler.com/publicgallery/showphoto.php?photo=16129&size=big&cat=621) for an example.
Also, my other two cents worth: usually dawn is less spectacular than sunset, with less saturated reds and pinks, and more crystal clear skies. Obviously it depends from the places, but there could be also a hint of mist, some heavier fog in places like bogs or around lakes, or some really thin clouds... Up to you!!!

RULES:

1) No postwork on the renders except for resizing, level adjustment, sharpening. No external objects whatsoever.

2) Up to THREE (edited, it was two!) images for each artist.

3) This time you'll have to trust me as a judge (from the next time there will be an official voting). I won't partecipate but just upload an image which I will post to explain my idea of the theme. I will judge images for mood and feelings they give me, not just for the skill, so all of you, please give it a try!!!!

4) The winner will CHOOSE THE THEME FOR THE FIRST OFFICIAL IT TERRAGEN CONTEST!

5) You may begin to upload your images from august 5th, and the last images must be online on august 22th. I'll probably post the winner on the following day!

6) For any questions please use this thread, and I'll try and answer a.s.a.p. (but note that on saturdays and sundays I am not online).

GOOD WORK!

Going to argue about the saturation of dawn......a Kansas prairie sunrise can be an amazing blood red sometimes. They are just stunning! They inspire poetry (mine of course) and photos (mine again) and terragen images. LOL
You do seem to be thinking softer though, so that's what I'll aim for.

Is a border considered as an external object?

Sunrise and sunset splendor differ in many parts of the world and also in space :-)...so we should go with what we "feel"..which I am sure we all do anyway....
Hope we see a great number of submissions...

@ QR, Hawk: oh, I'll never point to an image and say "naaaah, this is too colourful for a dawn" :p
It was just a suggestion, and my dawn experience is limited to all around Europe, from Southern Italy to Northern Norway, and I haven't seen anything surpassing an evening sky totally aflame, on Italian Alps. Actually, I'd love to see a Kansas dawn!!! And, YES!, it is all about feelings, I totally agree with you, Hawk, and that's the way I'll review all of the images, even the oversaturated ones :D :D :D :D

@FantasyDream: well, I guess it depends on the border. A white border can do, and even a small line around, or a one colour border faded into the image. I'd not say it is an actual object until it has some distinctive patterns and requires more than a couple of simple mouse clicks.

Ah, yes, you can also sign the image, or put the image title on it (as in my sample).

:D Actually, pale sunrise is harder to do! You get a sunglare that takes a good bit of twiddling to tone down. I like the challenge of trying to get things just the way I want....especially since I have no real clue about what I'm doing. LOL (please don't point me in the direction of any tutorials....I never read them :reading: )

Actually, I'll have to do a bit of a search for any tutorials about low sun settings. I hope to come with an answer tomorrow (but I am not sure I will, as for now I am clueless!)
