If you go to This (http://www.innertraveler.com/messagecenter/showthread.php?t=929) thread you will see the poll winner for the August challenge was Portraits.
So as Carolyn supplied a link to Vali's free stuff in the same thread, we shall do a "Vali's Ladies" challenge.
Download yourself a Vali character (or 2, or 3), texture, background, whatever you feel you need, and do yourself a Portrait of her or them.
Carolyn has set the usual rules plus 2 images per member, but has set a rule of NO Postwork! Pure Poser renders only. The only postwork allowed is a frame if you want to add one, and your signature.
Challenge is open now and will run till 25th August - so thats 4 weeks. On the 26th the voting will open and will remain open until the 1st of September.

Do we have to use her character textures "as is" or can we modify them for this challenge? I have a problem with leaving anything alone, so I figured I'd better ask. LOL

Hehe, till now I never found the time to participate to a challenge here, but I really want to be more present at Inner, I love this site (one of the most really artistics I know :aww: ).
No postwork though... tough one! Hahaha! But that's ok, what would be life without a lil challenging requirement every now and then, uh? :superman:
Good luck everyone! :w00t:

I would think that slight modification prior to rendering would be allowed, but we need to be able to tell it was a Vali original :D

In the very 1st post for this thread - click on the underlined word "This" that word is a link back to a previous thread with the URL's for the free characters.

Well poo, that means we have to use her injection stuff too, huh? I hate doing that...prefer to make my own faces. O.k. I'll re-do what I've begun working on. Switching gears is another of my favorite things to do. *grins*
First, let me get this right. I load V3 with her head and body morphs, then use the injection morph for the particular character, right? (I have the head and body morph pack)

Update!! - Carolyn has contacted Vali and she has very kindly agreed to provide a prize/prizes for the winner/s - she will also be judging the contest!! There has also been a slight change to the rules - you may upload 3 images for the challenge! :eyepoppin

I have heard from Vali, and she is being generous indeed.
This is what she has said:
First Place...8 packs to choose from my store and a 10 dollars gift certificate on renderosity.
Second Place...5 packs to choose from my store and a 10 dollars gift certificate on renderosity.
Third Place ... 3 packs to choose from my store and a 10 dollars gift certificate on renderosity.
also, for the products in Vali's store that she is offering, dont forget that the winners are free to choose the prizes that they want from her store, so if you already purchased any of Vali's products, you can choose something you don't yet have. And this includes her entire store, including the products she has marketed with partners.
Vali has also kindly offered to be the Judge for this challenge.
So come on folks, what you waiting for

Carolyn I suck at this portrait straight poser renders. I can't get bg's to look right and i don't do lighting to well. How come we can't do some postwork? I really wish you would let us do a little at least put them on a bg out of poser maybe add a light sorce. Cause most folks do their poser work that way anyway. I just really suck at straight poser, its not my style honest :(

Vali has already OK'd the rules before proposing her prizes. You CAN do it - I know you can - have a little faith.
Here is an idea for a very simple background - inport the single sided square from props -> primitives. Make it as large as you need it - with the square selected go to materials, add a new node -> 3D Texture -> Spots -> Lets say a star spangled sky - Make the base colour a very deep blue or black - the spots colour white or very pale yellow.. Spot size about 0.2 (depends on the size you want) softness 0.0 and threashold 0.5 - do a test render - not happy - change some of the settings or colours. Download lights from RDNA they have bushels of free lights, lights for every occasion. Play with other settings instead of spots choose clouds, or marble and play!!!

Just a reminder too folks that the general forum challenge rules apply - apart from those that Carolyn has set. This general rule was set up way back in 2004 when we had our 1st challenge, and it does not hurt to reiterate it from time to time.
All images are to be posted to the Poser Challenge Gallery only - You retain all rights to your images, but we ask that the image is not posted anywhere else until after the voting (meaning the image is not to be posted at any internet site other than Innertraveler or any such place that the image can be seen by the public). This is a general forum challenge rule. You can post a maximum of 3 images.

Wile 1, an even simpler way is to go over to RDNA freestuff and get the Infinity Cove. You can use anything on it as a texture and it shows pretty much as the original (including photos) That's what I use. You can move it forward and back depending on whether you want ground to show, or your background to cover everything. It's pretty neat and simple to use (and believe me...I need simple when it comes to these things, lol)

Also in P6 you can just render the shadow map and paste it onto your background image for the shadow look thing. so they ain't floatin' and you don't have to cut off their feet ......

You know guys, I'm sorry you don't like the no post work,I'm also tired of hearing about it. I'd also like to see you not post it to your image comment since Vali will be judging them. Blame me for it all but each one who has said I'm not allowed to do post work or anything like that statement, stop and take a look at your own posts...... they are all gorgeous and so much talent has come out of this no post work thing. Sure I do some once in awhile but dang guys come on would you. Also, don't forget the prizes being offered. by Vali that alone says it all. So why mention it on your posts. :juggle: :raincloud sorry I'm going enough is enough of this subject. :auto:

I sorry Carolyn.. I've discovered somethings about poser not using post work and some of my things have come out pretty good. Owe that all to you. Makes me look very hard at what I do to make sure I don't have to do any postwork to fix things. so I try harder that I thank you for. Although I will still on most of my work other than this challenge use something toi give it my personal touch, this challenge has been an eye openener. Hugs hon thanks :)

Carolyn I went back and looked at all the entrys for the challenge, no one well one said something about not likeing not doing post work. Most just stated No postwork including mine. Thats mostly just for future reference to when the pics are moved out of challenge gallery. So folks will know, hey they can do pics that ook that good and they don't fixe them? Like I said above I'm learning more and more about poser and my own abilities with it. Post work is always going to be something people do, they delvelop a style and thats how they finish pics. Straight poser work is very achievable though. And Im learning and hoping someday I can be as good as those folks that do it all the time. :)

I am always amazed at what other artists can do without postwork. I put it on my pics as a badge of honour almost because I was able to achieve a pic worth posting without drowning it in filters - quite chuffed I am too with the result
I do the same with pics I post elswhere when i don't do postwork
I liked the rule it really made me work at poser and not rely on my paint program :cuddle:

That is the idea and the reason for no post work you can go through the gallery and see some awesome images even last months that was not a portrait same thing, ton's of excellent creations all without post work .. Yes poser can do it all it may take a bit longer to be more creative but that is the idea of the no post work. You know, its like anything else there is always a few that refuse to try it with no post because there image is 80% post work. All I can do is hope some have learned they really don't need to do post work or keep it limited in their own daily posts. We all have paid for one great program so why turn it in to a mixed medium image if you really don't have too. To me any post work image should be put in mixed medium how can it be a poser when even half the work is post work. I know old fashion call it what you may but think about it. If you post at Rendo you know as well I do most are posted in poser now ask yourself if an image is created in poser is a true poser why do all the post work. Those that do post with a lot of post work are they really a true poser or not? That even includes rendering in Veu. we all pay big bucks for poser so why the post work .. my work may not be the best and I do occassionally do post work but most are pure Poser. Plus most of you know why I will don't post poser at Rendo if I do it will go mixed medium or comments will be turned off. That is just me.. I'm seeing some fabulous work even in portraits... Bravo to all who have given it a try:)

Normally I would agree, at places like rendo with program specific galleries, if it's a poser image, put it in the poser gallery.
But here we don't work that way - the galleries are deliberatly non program specific. You can post your image to the Portrait gallery, for instance, so long as it is a portrait, regardless of what program it was produced in (or how many programs were used to produce the final image). The site owner deliberatly set it up this way - he did not, and does not, want program specific galleries. The only program specific galleries we have set up are for the various forum challenges and that was a matter of neccessity - we had to be able to find the images in order to judge them. so it seemed best to keep then all together in one place :)

classy.. Postwork is done to fix mistakes I think for the most part. Sometimes no matter how careful you are theres a mistake you didn't see when you rendered in poser. And sometimes those renders take so long as is you just don't want to do it again. A fix in PS for example will take care of problem. Also a lot of people don't like poser hair because it is straight and not very pretty. Doesn't fly away well etc. So they like painting their own hair. Thats postwork. And also fixing hair sometimes giving it that whispy look from brushes that poser cannot do.
With me I use filters to inhance and make a pic look more magical etc. Its just a style. So postwork is something that helps. It doesn't detract from the original poser work. Its just an aid to make it better.

Don't get me to wrong here heck I do some minor post work myself like you said when you render you may see a spot that needs to be covered , minor post work I think is in most part a necessity. Painting hair well I don't worry about it heck I could not do hair on a bet. I used to try fixing the hair some well that went out the window pretty fast see ladies I can not hold on to the mouse do to things like that after having surgery in both arms for nerve damage its near impossible plus we have a wacom tablet well that was a waste neither one of us can even hold the pen. So thats the problem we face daily half the time I can't even open a jar. so I have to rely on almost no post work its the only way I can do anything. If I seem to come down to much on this no post work thing just ignore me been having some very bad days lately. Butyou have to admit in other areas some do a complete over kill on post work, example Terragen but I guess thats okay too to me its not art though in general I guess its all what we call in the eyes of the beholder.:) sorry I know been one major big pain lately..
