What's a vacation????? We run a large ranch for the in laws, breed and train quarter horses, and both fit in specialty jobs on top of that. Vacation? I envy you Rev! My idea of a vacation is an hour in the bathtub with a glass of wine and a good book.

Great hint on the computer freeze up (not) yes tg is good at taking forever to render, water, and the color red seem to really slow things down I have found and the ruffer the water the slower it gets.

That is a really good tut over on Terranuts. Only sad bit is that the link to the download is no longer available! I'd like to have been able to follow that tut right through!

You should really PM Rids on terranuts, and ask about the broken link. He is a very kind guy.

Oh, and please, Nicky, could you link that tutorial in the "terragen tutorials" sticky thread, if not there already? :)

Here's a copy of my PM and reply from RIDS

Sadly no, the files got lost during a server move and the tutorial needs to be re-written (when I have time) with a new terrain and surface map .

Damn... Unlucky try (poor Rids, I know he had lots of problems in the past with the servers).
Anyway, I have just remembered I had downloaded them (along with other rids examples) a long time ago. If anyone is interested, I may send a mail to him/her. Just PM me with a mail address.
Keep in mind that I have put them in a zip file with other rids examples, so I don't remember which are referred to that tut. But I think that's quite easy to come by (as they are simply called "sand", "wet sand" and so on...).

it's a bit of a confusing list, but i suffer from a 1G ram, AMD athlon 1.1G processor, running winxp. the renders at 3048x2286 still take up to 10 hours. i have found lots of fun tuts at other sites.... do you have sopack? could you hint at ways to fix the water at times? Sorry man, i'm still kinda new at terragen... :gallery: :duel:

orsonjames, it is really really really NORMAL :) if a 3000x2000 render takes 10 hours, at the best settings,. Even more if there is some water in it (water takes ages, really), and it doubles the times when you turn all of the antialiasing settings on!
My longest render ever was a 4000x3000 which took some 25 hours, but you could go ask Rids or other professionals on their records (78 hours, I know of) :wow:
